Dr. Vogelzang received his medical degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago. He
completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s
Medical Center in Chicago and he completed his fellowship in medical oncology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Dr. Vogelzang has dedicated his professional life to cancer patients and to cancer research. Beginning with his college research project at Argonne National laboratory near Chicago through a 24 year career at the University of Chicago in cancer care, education and research, to his current position as a senior scientific leader of US Oncology Research, he remains dedicated to curing cancer, one patient at a time. His resume reflects this lifelong dedication to cancer medicine.

Dr. Vogelzang is the recipient the 2013 Laureate Award from the Nevada Chapter of American College of Physicians. The Laureate Award honors senior physicians with acknowledged excellence and peer approval in the field of internal medicine, who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in medical care, education or research in service to their community and to their chapter of American College of Physicians.

Genitourinary Malignancies (prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular cancer), Mesothelioma and
Clinical Research

Dr. Vogelzang is a renowned medical oncologist and cancer researcher who has
authored/coauthored over 500 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts and has
given hundreds of lectures and presentations to his peers worldwide. He was a faculty member
at the University of Chicago from 1982 to 2003. From 1999 to 2003, Dr. Vogelzang was
Professor and Director of the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center. He was the Fred
C Buffet endowed Professor in Genitourinary Oncology. He then served as Director of Nevada
Cancer Institute from 2004 to 2009. Dr. Vogelzang joined Comprehensive Cancer Centers of
Nevada as a medical oncologist in 2009. He serves as Medical Director for the Genitourinary
Research Committee through US Oncology Research and Vice Chair of SWOG, a worldwide
network of researchers that design and conduct cancer clinical trials. He is also Associate Editor of Kidney Cancer Journal and Clinical Genitourinary Cancer.

Dr. Vogelzang leads cutting-edge clinical trials in genitourinary malignancies and mesothelioma and is involved in new therapies for patients with metastatic kidney, bladder and prostate cancer. He has lead research in Las Vegas for two recent FDA-approved prostate cancer
treatments – Provenge and Xofigo. In 2014 Nature published his research on an anti-PD-L1
treatment called atezolizumab for metastatic bladder cancer. The FDA is likely to approve the
antibody for bladder cancer in 2016.

Dr. Vogelzang was named Distinguished Physician of the year by the Nevada State Medical
Association and received the Laureate award from the American College of Physicians in
Nevada in 2013. He has been named “Top Doctor” by U.S. News & World Report, “Best
Physicians in Southern Nevada as chosen by their peers” by Desert Companion, “Everyday
Hero” from the American Red Cross Southern Nevada, “Best Doctors in Las Vegas: Research”
by Las Vegas Life, “Health Care Headliner” by Vegas Inc. and “Medical Marvels” by Nevada
Business Magazine. He was also awarded the Gold Certificate of Excellence by National
Cancer Institute and the Inspired Excellence in Health Care Award by Las Vegas HEALS.

Dr. Vogelzang has been featured in several national and local media outlets in relation to his
cancer research work including The New York Times, USA Today, New England Journal of
Medicine, Nature, “60 Minutes” and the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Dr. Vogelzang has served on numerous committees for the American Society of Clinical
Oncology (ASCO), as well as on its board of directors for three years.
